Cheap Domain Names

I know of more than one site selling domain names for around $30! Outrageous! Outrageous because you shouldn't pay anymore than $8.95 (at the time of writing this). At price they really are cheap domain names.

I get all my domains names from the same place, Godaddy.com, because they have a lot of free features which you pay for at other registrars - like domain name forwarding and email forwarding.

Check them out here: Cheap Domain Names at Godaddy.com

Before you go ahead and buy a cheap domain name have a good think about what it will be. There are a few things to consider:

  • you want a name that people will remember but still gives some indication of what your site is about. For example, cheeseontoast.com would not be a good name for a site about breeding goldfish but it could be good for a site about easy recipes for single living bachelors.

  • make it simple enough that people can type it straight into the address bar of their Internet browser. For example, people will probable have trouble remembering how to spell supercalafragalisticexpialadocious.com

  • if you are using a domain name that is also a keyword phrase in your site you may want to hyphenate it. For example, my first site was called Home Gym Review so I hyphenated the domain name to be http://www.home-gym-review.com By doing that I scored extra points with the search engines by increasing my site's relevancy. You should use the same principle when are naming pages such that the name of the page is the same as or contains the main keyword phrase.

  • in lists, directories and link directories the names are usually listed alphanumerically such that the first listing begins with "1".

  • be careful how you use numbers. For example, zero (0) can sometimes be confused as O (pronounced "oh") or if you use 4 instead of "for" it may also be confusing. I am guilty of using numbers in some of my domains but a clever way to get around it is to register both domains and redirect the incorrect one. Type www.oo7workfromhome.com into the browser and you will see that's what I have done.

I chose the name of this site 007WorkFromHome.com because it fits many of the above criteria.

TIP 2: If you are at a registrar you don't like, just transfer your domains to a new registrar. Its easy to do and any time you have left on your existing registrations will be added to new account
