Part 2 Email Internet Marketing

Part 2 - How To Build Your List

There are several methods for building a list:

  1. The most common is to have a pop-up or pop-under window at your site for capturing subscribers. If you have spent anytime surfing the Net you know what I'm talking about. To get a visitor to hand over their email address you need to convince them you are offering them value. It could be a special report like "FREE REPORT: Train your dog to walk on 2 legs in the next 30 minutes" or a tips series "5 Tips that could save you thousands of dollars and years off the life of your loan" or it could be to download an ebook or an ongoing ezine that you send out every week/2 weeks/month.

  2. You can use PPC advertising (ads found in the search engines) to get visitors from the search engines into your list, Perry Marshall is an expert at this. He writes white papers about a topic relating to the product he is promoting. His example is, if you are selling drills write a white paper about how to drill perfect holes. To get the report a person must click on your PPC ad and then once at your site give you their email address for you to send them the white paper via email.

  3. Writing ezine articles is a great way to build your reputation, bring visitors to your site and build your list. Some marketers successfully use ezine articles as their only form of advertising. You start by writing an article relevant to your niche. Then you submit it to article directories. Ezine owners are always searching article directories looking for good content to send their readers. At the end of your article will be a short bio explaining who you are and what you do at your web site, hopefully readers will like what you have to say and go to your site for more. That's where you catch get them to sign-up for your ezine/report/white paper etc. I personally use EzineAnnouncer to do all of my article submitting and it saves me heaps of time. It will submit your ezine to ezine directories and your articles to article directories.

  4. Buying a co-registration (co-reg) list is the easiest, least known about but also the most expensive way to build a list. Quite simply someone else builds the list and then you buy it. The list can be targeted such as a list of "work from home business opportunity seekers" or "health and exercise enthusiasts" or just a general list. This is personally the way I built my largest list, which at the time of writing contains over 5,000,000 names and growing. Mine is a general list; general lists tend not to be as responsive as targeted lists but the good thing is there are a very wide range of products you can market to them. The best place to learn more about co-reg marketing is CoRegistrationServices.com. Another source of coreg subscribers with a great reputation is LeadFactory

TIP 1: Windows now comes out with a pop-up blocker built in, so if you are going to use a pop-up, find one that can't be blocked.

TIP 2: If you don't want to create a special report or ebook to attract subscribers than you could probably find someone in your niche who already has and allows their affiliates to use it. It could bring you subscribers and commission checks.

SiteBuildIt! - Perfect if you are just starting out
SBI! is a product of Ken Evoy's SiteSell empire. It is an all in one package and what some people say represents the future of web hosting. SiteBuildIt is an excellent tool (combination of many tools really) for beginners. There are heaps of features:

  • SBI! is an online service that provides you with an easy point and click interface for creating your own attractive and professional web site

  • SBI! includes brainstorming tools for choosing your theme and keywords

  • SBI! incorporates tools for search engine optimization

  • SBI! auto submits your web site to the search engines and tracks search engine spiders and provides ranking reports

  • SBI! includes domain registration

  • SBI! includes web hosting of unlimited pages

  • SBI!! permits unlimited bandwidth

  • SBI includes unlimited autoresponders (a tool for sending email automatically when someone subscribes to your ezine, newsletter, tips etc)

  • SBI! includes ad-campaign management

  • SBI! includes click through analysis

  • SBI! provides you with a linking service (very important for search engine rankings)

Recommended Resources 5 & 6: Building you subscriber list organically is not the only way to do. You can actually buy subscribers and it's not a bad way to go....no kidding. There are 2 ways to do it:

  1. Buy a fresh opted-in list that has already been built by a third party service. Be careful though because some unscrupulous dealers may sell them to you AND 100 other people. A very reputable dealer is CoRegistrationServices.com.

  2. The other option, which is more expensive, is to get a third party to subscribe people directly into your ezine or newsletter. When the subscriber opts-in it will actually be via a form that advertises your ezine. The best for this type of opt-in is LeadFactory.
