Advertising
With Ezine Ads
Part 1 - Ezine Advertising
Ezine advertising continues to
be one of the most effective ways to advertise on the Internet.
An ezine is a periodical publication
that can be delivered in an email or accessed online. It will contain
information pertaining to a particular topic of interest to the
readers, hence their reason for receiving it. Ezines are nearly
always free unless they contain valuable, hard to get information
in which case there will be a subscription fee.
Ezine advertising is effective
because the readers are a very focused group all interested in the
main topic of the ezine. Additionally, if the ezine is highly regarded
by the readers then it will lend credibility to your ad.
There a 2 ways to advertise in
an ezine:
-
Submit a regular advertisement.
The ezine owner will have specifications about how they charge
for their ads. The ad can be a link in the middle of an article,
a link from the classified section, a banner or even a solo
ad where the entire ezine is just your ad. Solo ads are generally
more responsive and represent a better return on your advertising
investment but they are also the most expensive.
-
Submitting articles.
While submitting articles is not actually a direct sales approach
it can develop interest in your information and bring traffic
to your site. The article must of course be relevant and not
a blatant sales letter, if it is either of these no one will
ever publish it.
You can submit articles directly to an ezine owner or the more
common method is to submit them to article directories. They
will keep your article on file and ezine owners, who are always
looking for good content to supply their readers, will search
the database until they have found what they are looking for.
| TIP
1: If you are planning on running a solo ad test it
with smaller, cheaper ezines before running it in a larger
more expensive one. I paid $1000 to run a solo ad I had
never tested to a large list and did not make a single cent!
True story.
TIP 2: Do a little investigating
about an ezine before you use them to run an ad. Visit
some marketing forums and ask what people recommend and
also subscribe to the ezine for a few editions to gauge
the quality of their content. Some ezines just don't have
a responsive readership as I found out (see TIP 1 above)
TIP 3: Spend some time learning
how to write ads. A responsive readership won't do you
any good if your ad sucks. Writing material designed to
sell (called "copy") is a large subject and
takes time to develop but there are basic principles you
can follow.
TIP 4: You can find plenty
of places to submit your article by a search for "article
directory".
TIP 5: If you have your own
ezine you can offer to joint venture with another ezine
owner by running his ad if he runs yours.
TIP 6: I've never tried this
but I've heard since ezine owners often don't fill their
advertising space, you can get them to run your ad at
a discount. Ask them to hold your ad in standby and use
it only if they don't fill their advertising space and
they are prepared to offer it to you at a discount.

1: I use Ezine
Announcer to submit all of my articles. It is
software that is designed to make article and ezine submission
very easy. It saves me considerable time and is the only
way I do my submissions. |
