SEO (search engine optimization) Ranking Advice - Page 2

Return to SEO (search engine optimization) Ranking Advice - Page 1

The following points are those exactly outlined by Trafficology.com (see recommended resources below):

  1. Have a unique title for every page.
  2. Make your title something that describes the benefits you provide & the wants you fill
  3. Use your keywords in your title (not repeatedly)
  4. Get a domain name with your keywords in it
  5. Use the <h1> & <h2> tags and put your keywords in them
  6. Put your keywords in the text that is linked to your sub-pages
  7. Use your keywords in the copy text on your website - and in a couple places make them bold
  8. Include your keywords at the very top and very bottom of your webpage.
  9. Include your keywords in the ALT attribute of your <IMG> tag
  10. Include your keywords in the TITLE attribute of your <A> tag

This is what they say you shouldn't do:

  1. Do not try to trick the search engines
  2. Do not repeat your keywords over and over again.  Use your keywords in a natural sentence and where it seems appropriate. Over using keywords is called "Spamming" or "stuffing" and the search engines hate spam too.
  3. Do not try to hide your keywords
  4. Do not use frames
  5.  Do not use flash for your whole site (some flash is ok, but not for your whole site)
  6. Do not include words in your images
  7. Do not use too much JavaScript (or put it in an external file if you do)

Recommended Resources 1:

TIP 1: Read, read, read. Search engine algorithms change all the time in order to stay ahead of spammers and make results more relevant. Each time you learn something new, implement it and over time create a very competitive web site. Forums are a great place to ask questions and get ideas: http://www.webmasterworld.com

TIP 2: Subscribe to some SEO newsletters: http://www.highrankings.com/advisor.htm

TIP 3: If you are planning to use a professional SEO company read this advice from Google first.

TIP 4: Its good if you can use a combination keyword phrase. For example if your main keyword phrase was "dog collars" you could use the keyword phrase "best cheap dog collars". Doing this will give the page rankings for other relevant keyword phrases without diluting your main keyword.

TIP 5: One of the most powerful ways to improve your SEO ranking is through a reciprocal link exchange directory.

TIP 6: "Content is King". Search engines love content. Fill your site with relevant information.

TIP 7: Make a site map that includes every page of your site. Not only is it helpful for your visitors but search engines love them. It's a very easy way for them to find and index every page of your web site.

TIP 8: Try not to have more than 3 layers in your web site. That is, to get to any page I should not have to go through more than 2 pages (2 clicks). Any deeper than that and your visitors may get lost and the search engines spiders will leave before indexing your whole site.
